EXCON sponsors the 8th year of the professional conference for doctoral study with international participation - JUNIORSTAV 2006 at VUT in Brno

On the campus of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Brno University of Technology they have already organized the professional conference of doctoral study for seven years. This year's eighth annual doctoral conference was held under the name JUNIORSTAV 2006 on 25 January 2006 under the auspices of the dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at VUT in Brno and the rector of VUT in Brno.

The opening ceremony of this student conference traditionally took place in the grand hall with the participation of the rector of VUT, Prof. RNDr. Ing. Jan Vrbka, DrSc., dean of the FAST at VUT, Prof. RNDr. Ing. Petr Štěpánek, CSc., founder of the conference on doctoral study, Ing. Libor Matějka, CSc, head of the Institute of Water Management at FAST and the professional guarantor of the conference, Doc. Ing. Miloš Starý, CSc. and the representative of the organizational committee, Ing. Miroslav Špan.

The conference attracted 400 doctoral students on full-time and distance courses from a whole range of universities in the Czech Republic and from abroad. At the conference, PhD students have the chance to publish the results of their scientific-research activities, present them before the wider public, and even discuss the given issues. During the conference they can also establish contacts with their colleagues from Czech and foreign colleges and universities, or even combine cooperation with work experience. "Doctoral study" is a continuation of masters study programs with a narrow specialization.

Meetings took place in eight main sections in the lecture halls at the faculty.

EXCON, a.s. was more prominent for subsection 2.2. Metal, Timber and Composite Structures of Section 2 Constructions and Traffic Structures.

Sixteen papers were submitted for subsection 2.2.

EXCON awarded three prizes in this section on agreement with the professional committee (vouchers to purchase specialist literature worth CZK 1000), to Jan Henzl for his paper, "Corrosion of screwed joints behind patinating steel", František Kurčík for the paper, "The impact of corrosion on the reliability of compressed elements of railway bridges" and Petr Slepička for his paper, "Partially preloaded spar piece with parabolic bands".

Our company supported the doctoral student conference, JUNIORSTAV 2006 with the sum of CZK 17,000 as well as giving selected students three vouchers worth CZK 1000 to purchase specialist literature or lecture notes.
